MCCC Women’s Head Tennis Coach Marc Vecchiolla helped organize and take local youth tennis players to Arthur Ashe Kids’ Day at the US Open. Vechiolla who is Director of Tennis Operations at Mercer County Park is also on the Board of Directors of USTA (United States Tennis Association) New Jersey. The USTA is the governing body for tennis and is recognized as the leader in promoting and developing tennis’ growth on every level in the US.
The Net Generation US Open Experience bus trip was held on August 26th. Vechiolla described how this came about “The Mercer County Park Commission Junior Tennis program was selected to demonstrate their skills using junior tennis racquets, low compression red dot balls and smaller nets on show court 11 at the US Open in front of thousands of spectators before a marquee match. An online application was submitted to the USTA National office and our program is honored to have been selected.”
Twenty-four MCPC Junior players of an approved skill level traveled by bus from The Mercer County Tennis Center to New York City under the leadership of Director of Tennis Operations Vecchiolla and Associate Director of Tennis Operations, Devin Rubino. The Juniors, all of whom had an individual chaperone were able to stay and watch matches after their demonstration. “This was an incredible opportunity for these junior players and wonderful recognition for the Park Commission as our program was recognized at the most iconic venue in U.S. tennis” said Vecchiolla.
