Mercer Softball Posts Impressive Stats in 2024

6/11/24

In honor of World Softball Day, which is on June 13th, let's take a closer look at Mercer softball and the impressive numbers they put up in the 2024.  The Vikings had a very successful season finishing 42-9 and with the most wins in program history.  Mercer was led by four sophomores returning from last season’s 41-10 squad and these veterans combined with talented freshmen combined for a season filled with many milestones and some impressive stats.

Sophomore Cierra Acevedo (Hamilton, NJ/Hamilton West) had 125 hits, 112 RBIs, 124 runs, 13 triples, 13 home runs and 13 doubles in her two seasons at MCCC.  Sophomore Maya Patel (Burlington, NJ/Burlington Township) finished her MCCC career with 145 RBIs, 133 hits, 117 runs, 36 doubles and 31 home runs.  Patel earned All-Conference honors in 2023 and All-Region honors in 2024.  Sophomore Abby Bell (Hightstown, NJ/Hightstown HS) had exactly 100 hits, 145 RBIs, 117 runs, 36 doubles and 31 home runs in two seasons at Mercer.

Sophomore pitcher Shea Krebs (Robbinsville, NJ/Robbinsville HS) finished her Viking career with a 35-6 record and 12 shutouts.  Krebs had 226 strikeouts and only 66 walks over two seasons.  Krebs averaged 6.89 strikeouts per game over her two seasons at MCCC as well and a 2.56 ERA.  Krebs was named the Region 19 Pitcher of the Year and earned 1st Team All-Region honors for the second straight year.

The four Viking softball sophomores finished their two years at MCCC with a record of 82-19.

Vikings softball may have some more milestones to look forward to in 2025.  Freshman Kelci O’Dell (Wrightstown, NJ/Northern Burlington) is only seven hits (93 hits this spring) from 100 after her rookie season.  O’Dell also had 62 RBIs this spring and a .531 batting average, eighth best in NJCAA Division II softball.  Freshman Emily Wyzykowski (Westampton, NJ/Rancocas Valley) had 63 hits and 46 RBIs and a .434 batting average.  Freshman Madison Jobes (Roebling, NJ/Florence Twp. Memorial) had 53 hits and 54 runs.  Freshmen Angelina Guida (Monroe, NJ/Monroe Twp.) and Makenna Spak (Hamilton, NJ/Steinert) each had 49 hits this spring.  That puts five Viking players close to or on track to 100 career hits if that have similar seasons in 2025.

The Vikings also have some strong pitching returning next spring.  Freshman Izzy Bonacci (Hamilton, NJ/Steinert) had 154 strikeouts in 120 innings pitched and a 2.63 ERA.  Bonacci averaged 8.98 strikeouts, 14th best in NJCAA DII softball and had 15 wins in her rookie season.  Freshman Jessica Adams (Levittown, PA/Harry S Truman) went 10-1 and had a 1.64 ERA, seventh best in the nation. Adams had 74 strikeouts in 64 innings pitched and averaged 8.09 strikeouts per game.

2024 was a season filled with many milestones, especially for the four sophomores, but if the freshmen continue their success from this spring, 2025 can be filled with many milestones as well.  There's a lot to celebrate on this World Softball Day and hopefully more to come for the Vikings in 2025!
