MCCC Men's and Women's Soccer Enter Region Playoffs as Top Seeds 

 

 

As Mercer County Community College (MCCC) men’s and women’s soccer programs prepare for the Region 19 Playoffs, both programs enter not only as the top seeds in Region 19, but as nationally ranked programs.  Mercer men’s soccer is ranked 16th and MCCC women’s soccer is ranked 20th in the latest NJCAA Division II Soccer.

 

Mercer will be hosting the Region 19 Playoffs for both men’s and women’s soccer.  The #1 seed MCCC women’s team will face the #4 seed Sussex CCC at 4:00 PM on October 31st.  The winner of that match will face the winner of #2 seed Essex CC vs #3 seed Lackawanna College (being played at Essex).  The winners of these games will face off in the Region 19 Championship at 11:00 AM on Saturday, November 2nd at MCCC.  

 

MCCC women’s soccer enters the Region playoffs with a 12-1-2 record, Essex with a 4-5-1 record, Lackawanna with a 2-4 record and Sussex with a 2-6-1 record. Mercer beat Essex 9-0 on September 21st, beat Lackawanna 4-0 on September 28th, and beat Sussex 12-0 on October 5th.  Essex beat Lackawanna 3-2 on October 5th and beat Sussex 2-0 on October 12th.  Sussex lost 2-1 at Lackawanna on September 17th, then beat Lackawanna 3-0 on October 15th

 

#1 seed Mercer men's soccer will take on #4 seed Lackawanna on Friday, November 1st at 4:00 PM.  The winner of this match will play the winner of #2 seed Essex vs #3 seed Massasoit, which is being played at MCCC at 2:00 PM on November 1st.  The winners of these matches will play in the Region 19 Championship on Saturday, November 2nd at 2:00 PM.

 

Mercer men’s soccer enters the Region 19 Playoffs with a 14-2-1 record, Essex with a 10-2-1, Lackawanna with a 3-5 record and Massasoit with a 5-4-2 record.  Mercer beat Essex 6-1 on September 21st and beat Lackawanna 7-1 on October 19th.  Essex beat Lackawanna 9-1 on September 9-1 on September 14th.  

 

Massasoit CC from Brockton, Massachusetts is the only NJCAA Division II team in Region 21, and becomes a fourth team in the Region 19 men’s playoffs.  Mercer and Massasoit played two common opponents this season: Bunker Hill CC and Northern Essex CC.  Mercer beat Bunker Hill 4-0 on August 30th and beat Northern Essex 4-1 on August 31st.  Massasoit lost 1-0 vs Northern Essex on September 18th and lost 3-1 vs Bunker Hill CC on October 1st.

 

The winners of the Region 19 Championship will advance to the District Championship.  Winners of the District Championship advance to the NJCAA Division II National Championship.
