Much Success for Men's Lacrosse Despite Record

06/03/24

Despite a tough season for MCCC men’s lacrosse, there is a lot the Vikings can be proud of.  Freshman goalie Trevor Malik (Hamilton, NJ/Steinert) led the nation in saves with 186.  Sophomore faceoff specialist Izzy Miranda (Tampa, FL/Tampa Catholic) finished his Viking career just short of 200 faceoffs won, with 192 in two years, including 125 this spring.  Miranda also picked up 162 ground balls in two seasons including 112 in 2024.

Sophomore attacker Braden Travaglini (Berlin, NJ/Eastern Regional) was one of the team’s goal and point leaders in 2023 and 2024, finishing his Viking career with 29 goals and 39 points.  Travaglini also picked up 29 groundballs in 2024 and led the Vikings with 11 caused turnovers.

Freshmen defenders Nolan Halloran (Yardley, PA/Pennsbury) got 35 groundballs and his brother Liam picked up 34 groundballs this spring.

Freshman Ashani Harvey (St. Catherine, Jamaica/Calabar HS) had 11 goals in his rookie season.  Freshman Owen McAdams (Hamilton, NJ/Steinert) had nine goals in his rookie campaign and was named the Region 19 Offensive Co-Player of the Year.

The Vikings also had placed among the top in the nation in several statistical categories.  Mercer finished with 55 goals on the season, 14th best in the country and had 25 assists, 13th best in the nation.  The Vikings shot 51% on goals, 13th best in the nation.  Mercer was also 11th best in the country in groundballs and caused turnovers, finishing the 2024 season with 336 groundballs and 67 caused turnovers.

Mercer had just four two year players this spring: Miranda, Travaglini, Theo Deberghes and Tyler Unkert and still pulled together a statiscally successful season.  The Vikings also had six players earn All-Region honors: Liam Halloran, Harvey, Malik, McAdams, Miranda, and Travaglini.  Both Miranda and Travaglini earned All-Region honors in 2023 and 2024.

There is much to look forward to in 2025 for Vikings men’s lacrosse and first year Head Coach Ben Whitcraft, who started at MCCC in November.
