Last week, Mercer men’s basketball player Torren Greene (Berlin, NJ/Paul XI) did something that hasn’t been done by an MCCC men’s player in over fifteen years. That something was score close to 40 points in a single game. Greene scored 37 points in the Vikings’ 109-94 win vs Atlantic Cape CC. Greene made the 37 points look easy, going 15 for 21 (71% from the field) and 6 for 7 from three point range.
In eighteen games this season, Greene is averaging 13.5 points per game and shooting 53% from the field. Greene’s play has elevated his play as the Vikings enter their final six games of the season.
Mercer is 12-5 overall and 3-6 in Region play. In order to qualify for the Region Playoffs, the Vikings must finish .500 overall or in Region play. Three of the Mercer’s final six games are against Region opponents: February 4th at Lackawanna, the 15th vs CC of Morris and the 18th at Raritan Valley.
