Mercer men’s basketball sophomores Izaiah Johnson (Burlington, NJ/Burlington City) and Jason Mark (Broward, FL/Blanche Ely HS) earned Division II All-Region 19 honors, which were announced last week. Johnson was named 1st Team All-Region 19 for the second straight season. Mark was named 2nd Team All-Region 19.
Johnson is averaging 13.4 points per game, 4.7 rebounds per game and 3.8 assists per game. Johnson’s leadership and ability to control the point helped the Vikings qualify for their first Region playoff appearance since 2019.
Mark has improved significantly from last season and is averaging 10.4 points per game and 6.9 rebounds per game. Mark has eight double doubles on the season and was recently named the Division II GSAC (Garden State Athletic Conference) Player of the Week.
Johnson has remained one of the top players in the Region for the second straight year. Over the summer, Johnson was one of 60 players invited to the NJCAA Rising All-Star Game played in Iowa and the only player from the Northeast.
Mark has become a force in the frontcourt for the Vikings this season and been dominant in the post. In the Vikings. In a recent game at Middlesex, Mark grabbed 18 rebounds and had 15 points.
The two All-Region performers helped lead Mercer to their first playoff appearance since 2019. The Vikings are one of four Division II teams to qualify for the playoffs and will take on #1 seed Raritan Valley on Tuesday, February 27th at 7:00 PM.
