MCCC Baseball Players Earn All-Region 19 Honors

 

 

MCCC baseball had six players earn All-Region 19 honors.  Four players earned 1st Team honors: freshman pitcher Matteo Mannino (Wrightstown, NJ/Northern Burlington), sophomore catcher Bannon Brazell (Vienna, VA/James Madison HS), sophomore infielder Joe Gmitter (Hamilton, NJ/Steinert) and freshman infielder Jake Pope (Hamilton, NJ/Steinert).  Sophomore pitcher Ryan Conover (Hamilton, NJ/Notre Dame) and sophomore outfielder Torin McKenzie (Hamilton, NJ/Nottingham) both earned Second Team All-Region 19 Honors.

 

Mannino lead the Vikings with 63.1 innings pitched and wins, going 7-2 on the season.  Mannino threw two complete games, had a 4.41 ERA and 30 strikeouts.  Brazell hit .368 for the Vikings with 46 hits and 24 RBIs in 41 games.  Brazell caught 12 runners stealing and had 10 doubles this spring.  Third baseman Gmitter batted .356 this spring and finished with 62 hits, 55 RBIs and 46 runs.  Gmitter also had a .918 fielding percentage at “the hot corner.”  Jake Pope led the Vikings with a .402 batting average.  Pope had 66 hits, 42 runs, 38 RBIs and 16 stolen bases.  The shortstop had a .956 fielding percentage, .487 on base percentage and .512 slugging percentage.

 

McKenzie led the Vikings in hits, with 73 on the season to go along with a .378 batting average, 60 runs, 49 RBIs and a .570 slugging percentage.  McKenzie had a .970 fielding percentage and .483 on base percentage.  Relief pitcher Conover went 4-2 this spring and also had 8 saves, which was 8th best in NJCAA Division II baseball.  Conover had 22 strikeouts in 35.2 innings pitched and a 3.79 ERA.
