Great Scott! In honor of Back to the Future Day which falls on October 21st, we are traveling back to the real “Back to the Future Day” October 21 st, 2015. This was the date Marty McFly and Doc Brown land in, in Back to the Future II. So we are going to take a look at MCCC sports around this time, eight years ago.
In the fall of 2015, Mercer sports were on their way to successful seasons. Both the men’s and women’s soccer teams advanced to the Region 19 Championship that fall. Men’s soccer won the Region and advanced to the District Championship. Vikings goalie Kellen Groover earned All-American honors. The Vikings were ranked as high as #2 in the nation in NJCAA Division I Men’s Soccer.
It was a great fall and time for MCCC sports on this date eight years ago. While we can’t travel back in time or to the future, we know our teams and student athletes will continue to have success regardless of what year it is. It is fun to look back on past seasons and success and reflect a bit on the “glory days.” But the present is also busy and full of opportunity for MCCC student athletes.
Men’s soccer enters the Region 19 Tournament as the top seed and will host Essex on Saturday, October 28 th. Women’s soccer earned a bye as the top seed in the Region Tournament and will host the winner of Essex/Lackawanna in the Championship Game also on the 28 th. Men’s basketball will open their season on November 4 th.
As Marty McFly said, “If you put your mind to it, you can accomplish anything.” And we are sure that MCCC student athletes can accomplish big things this year and in the future, just like they did in the past.
