MCCC Athletics Holds Women In Sports Night

Despite a change in date and having to be held on the same night as Academic Achievement Night, these changes did not take away from Women in Sports Night, which honored four female athletes for their academic and athletic achievements.  National Women in Sports Day is celebrated on February 5th and celebrates the accomplishments of female athletes.  The day also acknowledges the progress of women in sports and the influence of sports on women and girls.

To celebrate this day, MCCC coaches along with Athletic Department members selected one athlete from each of Mercer’s  four women’s sports teams.  The second year athlete was chosen based on their academic and athletic achievements as well as the leadership and teamwork they have demonstrated.

The four selections were Carla Cencerrero Gallego from women’s basketball, Diana Kalajdzic from women’s tennis, Fiona Madigan from women’s soccer and Makenna Spak from softball.

Senior Women’s Administrator Erin Cahill-Wetzel, who helped organize Mercer’s second annual Women in Sports Night had the following to say about the event.  “It was an honor to recognize these four women who have done outstanding things on and off the court and field and represented MCCC so well.”
