Describing MCCC Athletics

In honor of National Thesaurus Day, which fell on January 18th, here are just a few words to describe MCCC Athletics.

Dominant, established, familiar, well-known.  Just a few word to describe Mercer’s men’s soccer program, who made their 37th appearance in the NJCAA National Tournament this fall.  The Vikings’ men’s soccer team have won the national title eight times.

Historic, special, elite.  Mercer women’s tennis has won four National Championships.  Mercer men’s basketball remains the only East Coast junior college to win the NJCAA Division II National Championship.  In addition to the success of Mercer men’s soccer team, all nine of Mercer’s sports teams have reached the NJCAA National Tournament.

Smart, well-rounded, hard-working, dedicated.  MCCC athletes are more than just athletes, they also excel academically in the classroom.  In the fall 2024 semester, 76 Student athletes earned All-Region or All-Conference Academic honors.  Thirteen student athletes earned NJCAA Academic All-American honors for the 2023-2024 academic year.

Passionate, uniting, enthusiastic, exciting.  The performances of Mercer’s student athletes brings people from the community together to watch our sports teams perform.  Games bring fans and the student body together to cheer on the Vikings.

Diverse, community, welcoming,  wide-ranging, family.  Mercer’s athletics teams attract students from all over the world to MCCC to be a part of our successful programs in addition to bringing local students to the college. The blend of local and international student athletes at MCCC helps add to the diversity of Mercer’s campus and student body.

Successful, winning, competitive.  On and off the field and court, Mercer’s student athletes have a great deal of success.  In 2024, four MCCC teams were Region Champions.  Five of Mercer’s teams were nationally ranked at some point during the season.

We can think of many additional words to describe Mercer Athletics, but we know they are an important and vital part of the Mercer County Community College community and campus.
