April 8th is Public Television Day which gives us a chance to highlight the Television major at MCCC and one of our student athletes in this program. Sophomore men’s soccer player Teddy Nkamanyi (Cologne, Germany) is a Television major.
Students who are complete the Television major at MCCC can enter careers in film, TV, broadcast journalism and video production. Career options for those in the Television major include directors, producers, editors, camera operators, compositors, audio engineers, writers, and other entry-level positions within the TV and video production industries.
MCCC Television majors have the opportunity to create features for MCCC’s cablecast, which includes students entering their own short features for the college’s annual video recognition ceremony, The Bernie Awards. All production classes involve state-of-the-art TV studio and control room equipment, and include practical experience with studio and portable cameras, video editing, graphics, special effects, producing, writing, and directing.
Goals of the Television major include: producing cable television shows; achieving entry-level positions in commercial, public, industrial, instructional, and cable television studios and facilities; writing, producing, directing and editing a variety of hi-definition video productions; writing various scripts, including commercials, news, and short film; operating ENG (electronic news gathering) equipment; producing a short film or documentary; using cutting-edge non-linear video editing equipment; and operating a broadcast TV switcher and audio console.
Nkamanyi earned All-Region 19 honors this fall. Nkamanyi led the Vikings with 14 goals in 12 games and scored 27 goals in two seasons for Mercer. Nkamanyi was named the Region 19 Offensive MVP following the Vikings win in the Region 19 Championship. Nkamanyi had three goals and one assist in the Region Semifinal and Championship. Nkamanyi helped lead Mercer to the Northeast District Championship in Michigan, where the Vikings were one win away from making the NJCAA Division II National Championship.
Nkamanayi also earned All-Region and All-Conference All-Academic honors in Fall 2022 and Spring 2023.
Nkamanyi had a great deal of success on the soccer field and we are sure he will find success off the field upon completion of the Television major at MCCC.
