February 17th is National Random Acts of Kindness Day. We are proud that our MCCC student athletes demonstrate great sportsmanship on and off the court and field. Our student athletes support and encourage each other and display acts of kindness throughout the year.
This fall, MCCC baseball and softball teams both volunteered at the Miracle League of Mercer County, an organization which allows special needs athletes to play baseball. MCCC baseball and softball players helped the Miracle League athletes “run” the bases, field the ball and assist wherever was needed.
On January 25th, our MCCC athletic teams came out in force to support Cancer Awareness Night and help raise $300 for Move Over Breast Cancer, an organization helping those affected by breast cancer. All of our teams filled the stands at men’s basketball game vs Raritan Valley.
MCCC men’s basketball went on their annual trip to Washington DC which included a tour of the U.S. Capitol and lunch with Congressman Glenn Ivey from the Fourth District in Maryland. Ivey played JV basketball at Princeton, went to Harvard Law School and has had a career as a prosecutor, a high level Congressional aide and now as a first term Congressman. The team also visited the Lincoln Memorial and US Capitol Building.
On February 1st, three women athletes were honored for National Girls and Women in Sports Day. Softball player Shea Krebs, women’s soccer player Hannah Worrell and women’s tennis player Valeria Vargas were the 2024 MCCC honorees for their academic and athletic achievements as well as leadership, sportsmanship and teamwork.
Whether through planned events or unplanned acts of encouragement, MCCC student athletes and coaches constantly show random acts of kindness that make us so proud of our Viking student athletes. We are proud of the example our student athletes set on and off the field.
