Freshman women’s soccer player Laura Kucharz (Singen, Germany/Friedrich Wohler Gymnasium) was named the GSAC (Garden State Athletic Conference) Player of the Week for the week of September 11th-16th.
After starting the season 0-5, Mercer has won two straight games and one reason has been the strong defense led by Kucharz. Head Coach Ron Stinson calls Kucharz his "one constant on defense since day 1. She plays great one v one, is always in the right position, makes runs down the line as an extra attacker, directs her teammates and encourages the team." Kucharz has played every minute of the Vikings seven games and helps keep the defense organized. Coach Stinson only has to tell Kucharz something once "and she gets it done." The leadership and strong defense of Kucharz helped Mercer to a 2-1 win at Brookdale this week.
The Vikings will look for two more wins this week when they travel to Ocean on September 21st and to RCSJ Gloucester on September 23rd.
