Celebrating National Sports Day with MCCC Athletics

 

In honor of National Sports Day, which falls on October 16^th, we will recognize the nine sports MCCC has to offer its students and the success of these programs and its student athletes.  Mercer has a very successful strong sports program and all nine of its sports programs have advanced to NJCAA National Championships.

 

MCCC offers nine sports: men’s and women’s basketball, men’s and women’s soccer, men’s and women’s tennis, and men’s lacrosse.  One hundred thirteen students participated in sports games for MCCC in the 2023-2024 academic year.  In the 2023-2024 year, Mercer’s sports teams won 114 games.  (Women’s basketball did not field a team last season.)

 

 

MCCC women’s tennis had their highest ever finish at the NJCAA Division I National Championship in May 2024 (after competing at the Division III level until 2019).  Mercer baseball were Region Champions in Spring 2024 and MCCC men’s soccer won the Region 19 Championship in Fall 2023.  MCCC softball advanced to the Atlantic District Championship and won their most games (42) in program history.  MCCC men’s soccer advanced to the Northeast District and were one win away from the NJCAA Division II National Championship.

 

MCCC women’s soccer and men’s lacrosse both reached the Region 19 Championship, women’s soccer in Fall 2023 and men’s lacrosse in Spring 2024.  Mercer men’s basketball reached the Region 19 Semifinals after qualifying for the Region Playoffs for the first time since 2019.

 

Mercer had 27 athletes earn All-Region 19 honors during the 2023-2024 academic year.  Three men’s soccer players, two men’s basketball players, six baseball players, six men’s lacrosse players, four women’s soccer players, and six softball players.

 

Softball player Shea Krebs was named the 2024 Region 19 Pitcher of the Year and men’s lacrosse player Owen McAdams was the 2024 Region 19 Co-Offensive Player of the Year.  Men’s soccer player Teddy Nkamanyi was named the 2023 Region 19 Tournament Offensive MVP and Dillon Du Toit was named the 2023 Region 19 Tournament Defensive MVP.  Baseball player Ryan Conover was named the 2024 Baseball Region 19 Tournament MVP.

 

 

Mercer student athletes succeed on the field and court, but also in the classroom.  Thirteen student athletes earned NJCAA Academic All-American honors for the 2023-2024 academic year.  Fifty seven student athletes earned All-Region and All-Conference All-Academic honors for the Fall 2023 semester and fifty one student athletes earned All-Region and All-Conference honors for the Spring 2024 semester.
