MCCC Athletics Holds Academic Achievement Night 

After a few schedule changes, MCCC Athletics held its 2^nd Annual Academic Achievement Night on February 13th.  At halftime of Mercer men’s basketball game vs CCBC Dundalk, all student athletes who earned All-Academic honors for the Fall 2024 semester were recognized.  This fall 67 student athletes had a GPA of 3.0 or higher and all 67 of these names were read off at halftime.

The event was organized by Senior Women’s Administrator Erin Cahill-Wetzel who along with Athletic Director Eric Grundman, wanted to find a way to highlight the success of MCCC student athletes in the classroom.  “Athletics is more than just wins and losses. This night is a way to show the community that our student athletes not only perform well on the court or field, but in the classroom as well” said Cahill-Wetzel.  “To have all the names of the All-Academic student athletes and see how many athletes earned these honors is something our department and coaches are very proud of.”

Men’s soccer led the All-Academic honors with 20 players having a GPA of 3.0 or higher.  Baseball and men’s lacrosse each had 10 players with All-Academic honors.  Men’s and women’s basketball each had six players with All-Academic honors.  Men’s tennis and softball each had five and women’s tennis had 4 student athletes earn All-Academic honors.

And on the court side, Mercer men’s basketball got a 97-89 win over CCBC Dundalk to keep their playoff hopes alive.
