MCCC Tennis Coach Honored by NJTL


MCCC Head Women’s Tennis Coach Marc Vecchiolla was honored by the National Junior Tennis and Learning (NJTL) of Trenton on May 21 st at the Raise a Racquet for Capital Cup fundraiser at the Trenton County Club.  An awards dinner followed a day of tennis and pickleball tournament play at the club.  Vecchiolla was honored along with Barry Szaferman and Cheryl Taylor.

Vecchiolla has coached the women’s tennis team at MCCC for 26 years and the MCCC men’s tennis team from 2008 to 2019.  Vecchiolla still serves as an Assistant Coach for the Mercer men’s team.

Vecchiolla has coached 163 players on 36 different teams and 46 players have earned All-American honors.  Four MCCC women’s tennis teams have won national titles under Vecchiolla’s leadership.  Vecchiolla was named the NJCAA (National Junior College Athletic Association) National Coach of the Year four times in 1999, 2000, 2002 and 2005. 

In 2005, Vecchiolla became the youngest inductee into the NJCAA Tennis Hall of Fame at the age of 36.  Vecchiolla was again honored by the NJCAA in 2017, when he received the Herschel Stephens Coaching Award, presented to a coach for outstanding service and dedication to the NJCAA Tennis Coaches’ Association.

Vecchiolla has served as Director of Tennis Operations with the Mercer County Park Commission since 1994.  In 2008, the Tennis Complex at Mercer County Park received the US Tennis Association’s National Outstanding Facility Award, which was presented at the US Open.

Vecchiolla has served on the Board of Directors for USTA Middle States Section and is Chairperson for the Mercer County Tennis Hall of Fame.  Vecchiolla is also President of the Region 19 Coaches’ Association.
