20th season
Ryan Zegarski is attuned to the demands of MCCC athletes. He was once one himself. And the excellence he enjoyed as a Vikings baseball player has transferred quite well to the softball diamond, where he has been program’s head coach since the fall of 2004.
Additionally, Zegarski is MCCC’s Assistant Director of Athletics.
The 2001 graduate of MCCC had a 488-191-1 record through his first 17 coaching seasons and led the Vikings to the 2007, 2010 and 2018 National Junior College Athletic Association Division II World Series. Only two other MCCC softball teams – the 1987 and ’88 teams – have gone that far. The 2007 team also won Garden State Athletic Conference, Region 19 and District G titles.
His other GSAC Championship season occurred in 2006 and 2009. The 2010 team that qualified for the World Series also earned Zegarski a region 19 Championship. Zegarski's leadership efforts have been rewarded, as he was honored as the region 19 coach of the year in 2007, 2010 and 2018.
Zegarski played baseball at MCCC under then-head coach Dave Gallagher and was a sophomore on the 2000 squad that won Region 19 and Northeast District titles en route to competing at the NJCAA World Series.
After completing his studies at MCCC, Zegarski went on to continue his baseball career at Richard Stockton University, where as a junior in 2002 he led the New Jersey Athletic Conference with a .455 batting average. In 2004, he earned an anthropology degree with a minor in sociology.
Zegarski was an assistant head coach with the Hamilton (N.J.) High West boys’ basketball program for three seasons, beginning in 2003. In his final season – 2005-06 – Hamilton won its first-ever New Jersey Interscholastic Athletic Association state title, claiming Group III laurels.
Zegarski is a native of Hamilton and current resident of Florence with his wife Tiffany and son Nicholas.
