Mercer baseball (39-7) lost their opening game of the NJCAA Division II World Series 2-3 in 10 innings to Pasco-Hernando, Florida, the Southeast District Champion. Sophomore pitcher Heath Fillmyer (Roebling, NJ/Florence Twp.) struck out 7 in 6 innings. Sophomore Mark Tomei (South Plainfield, NJ/South Plainfield) tied the game in the top of the eighth inning with a solo home run. Freshman Rafael Tous (Ringoes, NJ/Immaculata) drove in the Vikings' other run in the top of the seventh inning. Freshman Brandon Kirk (Yardville, NJ/Hamilton West) went 2 for 4 with a run in the loss. The Vikings had 2 outs in the bottom of the tenth inning, but a double to the right field corner drove in the winning run for Pasco-Hernando. With the loss, the Vikings enter the elimination bracket and will play Vincennes, Indiana at 1:00 PM (12:00 PM Central) Tuesday, May 27th. |
