Mercer baseball (38-6) won the opening game of the Northeast District Championship 1-0 over Cecil, MD in the best of 3 series.  Sophomore pitcher Heath Fillmyer (Roebling, NJ/Florence Twp.) had 14 strikeouts in 8 innings and moved to 9-0 on the season.  Freshman Nate Vahedi (Philadelphia, PA/JR Masterman) had a shutout ninth inning to get his fourth save of the season.  Freshman Shane Monahan (Levittown, PA/Truman) had an RBI double in the bottom of the 5th inning to drive in the lone run of the game.  Freshman James Rice (Middlesex, NJ/Immaculata) went 2 for 4 in the win.
