West
Windsor, N.J. -- In
just its second year as a collegiate program (after a 20-year
hiatus), MCCC women's cross country has the numbers to score
as a team this season. Wtih just two women competing for Mercer
last year, six students have been training with Head Coach
Erin Cahill this summer.
Cahill
is excited to have the numbers she needs for the team to score
in meets. "Last year helped lay the foundation for future
seasons. We have a good group and I'm looking forward to seeing
how we match up against other NJCAA schools."
Coach
Cahill is expecting freshman Sierra Downs (Hamilton Square,
NJ/Steinert) to be at the head of the pack, followed by freshmen
Anajae Register (Trenton, NJ/Allentown), Jaqueline Goncalves
(Pennington, NJ/Brazil) and Charlay Dingle (Trenton, NJ/Trenton).
Vitoria Lorenzetti (Princeton, NJ/Brazil), who spent the summer
in her native Brazil, is also expected to run for the Lady
Vikings along with another Brazilian, Simone Cioccari (Princeton,
NJ/Brazil).
"It's
hard to say where the girls are competitively until that first
meet. They've been working out hard, but it's just so different
when the gun goes off and you're running against other schools,"
Cahill observes.
Cahill
will not have to wait much longer. The Lady Vikings will compete
in their first meet Saturday, Sept. 3 at Delaware Valley College.
