Men's and Women's Soccer Teams
Prepare for Region 19 Tournaments

The MCCC men's soccer team completed its regular schedule last night with a decisive 4-0 win over Del Tech Stanton. With a 12-2 record, the men enter the Region 19 tournament as the no.1 seed. They will face Del Tech Stanton in the semi-final round on Tuesday, Oct. 28 at 6 p.m. at the MCCC soccer complex. The winner will appear in the final on Saturday, Nov. 1, also to be played at Mercer. (Time to be announced.) Key contributors for the Vikings are Roy Vissers, with 16 goals and 6 assists, Amit Abudmad, with 15 goals and 3 assists, and Luke Stedmond, with 10 goals and 5 assists.

Other men's soccer highlights: Head Coach Charlie Inverso recorded his 400th win in a 6-2 victory over Massasoit Community College (MA) on Oct. 18. In a special ceremony before that milestone game, Inverso welcomed back 12 players from his 1988 championship team, which earned the first of his five national titles as head coach.

On the women's side, the Vikings complete their season tomorrow in an away game against Harford CC (MD). They dominated last night's contest against Del Tech Terry, winning by a score of 9-0. With a record of 14-3-1, they will enter the seim-final round of the regional tournament as the no. 2 seed, facing Burlington on Monday, Oct. 27 at 6 p.m. at the Mercer soccer complex. The winner of that match-up will play in the Region 19 final on Saturday, Nov. 1. (Time to be announced.)

Key contributors for the Vikings are Kasey Kenny, who has scored a remarkable 24 goals with 9 assists; Erika Juricic, a graduate of Hightstown High School, with 11 goals and 6 assists; and Marlene Chotkowski, a graduate of Nottingham, with 9 goals and 7 assists. Sophomore Heidi Summers has been solid in goal.

In addition to hosting the Region 19 Tournament, MCCC will also host the Northeast District Tournaments for both women and men, to be played Nov. 7-9. (Teams and schedules will be posted as soon as they are available.) The winners of the district round will play at the NJCAA national tournaments later in November.
