Another MCCC Baseball Player Heads for Professional Leagues

4/15/05

Ken Lup Jr. of Hamilton has signed with the Fort Worth Cats of the Central Baseball League. Lup was the Vikings’ catcher during the 2003 season, when the team advanced to the NJCAA World Series and he was selected to the 2003 All-American team. He continued his education at William Patterson University.

Lup is the third Mercer player in the past two years to sign a professional contract. Pitcher Shaun Parker will play for the New York Yankees' Staten Island A League team this season, after graduating from Mercer in 2002 and Rutgers in 2004. Pitcher Matt Perks played for Mercer during the 2004 season before signing with the Montreal Expos, now the Washington Nationals. Perks is playing with the Gulf Coast Nationals, the Nationals' minor league team in Melbourne, FL.
