West Windsor, N.J. - The Second Women's Northeast Regional ITA/Wilson Tennis Championships, to be hosted by Mercer County Community College from Friday, September 25 through Sunday, September 27, is so impressive that its draws are bigger than some of the recent National Junior College Athletic Association championship tournaments.

Twelve community colleges will descend upon the Mercer County Park Tennis Center, adjacent to MCCC, for three singles flights and two doubles flights, with some draws up to 32 players (including byes). Flight 'A' singles and doubles winners will qualify for the ITA National Small College Championships Oct. 16-19 at Copeland-Cox Tennis Center in Mobile, Ala.

The host Vikings finished second at last year's inaugural Northeast Regional tournament under Head Coach Marc Vecchiolla.

MCCC's Kristina Holsman is the
No. 4 seed in 'B' singles.

Also scheduled to compete this year are fellow NJCAA Region 19 schools Brookdale Community College (Lincroft, N.J.), Gloucester County College (Sewell, N.J.) and Ocean County College (Toms River, N.J.), as well as ASA College (New York), Cecil College (North East, Md.), the Fashion Institute of Technology (New York), Hagerstown (Md.) Community College, Harford Community College (Bel Air, Md.), Montgomery College-Rockville (Rockville, Md.), Onondaga Community College (Syracuse, N.Y.) and Nassau Community College (Garden City, N.Y.).

No. 1 and 2 singles players will participate in Flight A, No. 3 and 4 singles players will participate in Flight B, and No. 5 and 6 singles players will participate in Flight C. For doubles, No. 1 and 2 teams will play in Flight A and No. 3 teams will play in Flight B. There will be a back draw for singles players who lose in the first round.

ASA's first-year NJCAA Division I program is considered particularly strong. Coach Richard Bowie's squad has earned the top four seeds in the 'A' singles flight, led by Soizzette Simmons. The fifth seed is Brookdale's Carly Graver, who is coming off an 'A' flight championship at the Harford Invitational.

MCCC players to earn seeds are Kristina Holsman (Hamilton, N.J.), who is the No. 4 seed in the 'B' singles, and Rebecca Wolf (Hopewell, N.J.) and Emily Dow (Princeton Junction, N.J.), who form the No. 6 seed in 'A' doubles.
