MCCC, FDU Ink Agreement to Make College More Affordable

WEST WINDSOR – A new agreement between Mercer County Community College (MCCC) and Fairleigh Dickinson University (FDU) will give MCCC graduates an opportunity to earn their bachelor’s degree at FDU at nearly half the regular cost.
MCCC President Dr. Jianping Wang and FDU President Sheldon Drucker, along with faculty and staff from both institutions, signed a dual enrollment agreement Nov. 23 during a ceremony at the Conference Center at Mercer. Under the agreement, Mercer graduates may enroll in FDU bachelor’s degree programs and receive a scholarship that reduces the university’s tuition rate by 40 percent.
“This is a very good day for our students,” Wang said. “This will give them better access to a more affordable, high-quality private university education.”
“Affordability is so critical today, and now Mercer students will have more opportunities to achieve their academic goals,” Drucker said. “We look forward to graduating the next class of Mercer students.”
Dr. Christopher Capuano, FDU’s Provost and Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs, explained that first-time college students admitted to FDU and elect to attend MCCC – or current MCCC students with fewer than 30 credit hours – must sign a MCCC-FDU intent to enroll form. After earning an associate degree at MCCC, they are then eligible for the reduced tuition rate.
Additional tuition reductions are available for members of the Phi Theta Kappa honor society and students with a grade point average of 3.5 or higher, Capuano said. Students choosing to reside on FDU’s Metropolitan Campus or Florham Campus will receive an additional housing grant. |

“Our goal is to make a quality, private education affordable,” Capuano said.
Dr. Eun-Woo Chang, MCCC’s Vice President for Academic Affairs, said he is pleased with the expansion of Mercer’s partnership with FDU.
"This is a great opportunity for our students,” Chang said. “It’s a win-win situation.”
This represents an expansion of Mercer’s partnership with FDU, which is currently one of four four-year universities offering bachelor’s degree programs on the MCCC campus. Current FDU degree programs include bachelor’s degrees in Communication, Criminal Justice, Business and Technology, Hospitality Management, and a master’s degree program in Hospitality Management.
Founded in 1942, FDU is the largest private university in New Jersey, offering more than 100 degree programs at the associate, baccalaureate, master’s and doctor’s levels. More than 12,000 students from 32 states and 72 countries are enrolled on the university’s two campuses in northern New Jersey, as well as its international campuses in Wroxton, England, and Vancouver, Canada.
MCCC is home to approximately 13,000 students in degree and certificate programs at its West Windsor Campus, James Kerney Campus in Trenton, and through MercerOnline. The college offers more than 100 degree and credit certificate programs, and is accredited by the Middle States Commission on Higher Education.
