MCCC Freshman Lin and Green Named to All-Garden State Athletic Conference Team

West Windsor, N.J. – Mercer County Community College (MCCC) Freshman Alex Lin and Tyrae Green both had a dash of good news amid the coronavirus pandemic, as both were named to the All-Garden State Athletic Conference First and Second Teams respectively, on Tuesday, April 7.

“At Mercer, I’ve learned that if you show up to work hard every day, there will be tons of improvement in how good of a player you can be,” Lin said.

Lin, who capped off his year with a season-high 37 points in Mercer’s final contest, was the lone player to start in all 25 games for the Vikings. He averaged 15.7 points per game, including another 30-point effort against the County College of Morris on Jan. 9.

Beyond the arc, Lin proved one of the country’s most effective shooters. He shot 48.9 percent, which placed him 5th among all Division II National Junior College Athletic Association Athletes.

Defensively, Lin led the Vikings with nearly six rebounds and one block per game.

His strong showing was rewarded – last month, Lin committed to continue his college career Southern Connecticut State University (SCSU), where he will suit up for the Owls' NCAA Division II basketball program.

While Lin was knocking down triples, his teammate Green was busy leaving his own mark on Mercer’s basketball team.

Originally from Philadelphia, Green quickly became the Vikings’ leading scorer. He opened the year on a high note, scoring 23 points while shooting 6-for-6 from the free throw line in a win over Roxbury Community College.

Green lit up Mercer’s stat sheets throughout the year, averaging a team-high 17.2 points per game. His biggest outing came on Nov. 26, when Green tallied 30-points against Raritan Valley Community College.

Away from the basket, Green also served as Mercer’s resident assist-disher and pickpocket, leading the team in assists (3.0) and steals (1.3) per game.

“We are happy that both Alex and Tyrae were recognized for their accomplishments this season,” said men’s basketball Head Coach Howard Levy. “We are excited for Alex’s next stop at Southern Connecticut University and looking forward to having Tyrae back next season.”
