West Windsor, N.J. - The spring semester at Mercer County Community College’s (MCCC) Center for Continuing Studies (CCS) is beginning with a new partnership to prepare employees for insurance licensing.
The Insurance Pre-Licensing Education course features three offerings: Casualty, Health and Life Insurance. The courses run 40-hours each and are designed to meet and exceed the required learning objectives in line with the New Jersey Department of Banking and Insurance (NJDOBI).
The sections are taught by Rita Bogar, President of the National Alumni Council at Bryant University. Bogar's prior involvement with MCCC's was with the Mercer Institute in the Division of Lifelong Learning. She is also an adjunct faculty member at William Paterson and Montclair State Universities, as well as a member of the Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter Society Leadership Council.
According to Jigna Rao, Director of the Center for Continuing Studies, the property and casualty insurance industry is facing a highly competitive job market.
"The demand for highly-trained insurance professionals, with the necessary skills and qualifications needed to fill many positions, leaves a gap in the NJ job market," said Rao. "As leaders in Workforce Development, the Center for Continuing Studies recognized the necessity for building a bridge to provide additional training opportunities for those already working in the field, or those looking for a new career path, and the high demand for skilled workers."
She added, "By working with select insurance agencies in the area, we can collaboratively fill those gaps."
The Casualty Insurance Pre-Licensing course will begin on Monday, March 9, with class meetings on Mondays and Wednesdays through March (a class is also scheduled for Friday, March 27). The final exam is set for the week of March 30.
The Health Insurance course will run Monday, May 18 through Wednesday, May 27. The Life Insurance course will run Monday, June 1 through Tuesday, June 9. Registration for each ends a week before the start date.
Tuition for each course is $420. Registration is now available. Download the application here and return it to raoj@mccc.edu.
