MCCC’s Camp College and Kelsey Theatre’s Tomato Patch Plan Virtual Summer Camps for 2020

West Windsor, N.J. – In keeping with state and nationwide social distancing recommendations, Mercer County Community College’s (MCCC) Camp College and Kelsey Theatre’s Tomato Patch are announcing plans for an entirely virtual slate of summer programming.

“Just as schools have been challenged to change the way they deliver experiential learning for our children due to the pandemic, so has Camp College,” said Rose Fiorello, Director of Youth and Special Programs.

This summer, Camp College will offer programs in an array of fields and subjects, including the sciences, arts and technology. These aren’t virtual babysitting options – campers will walk away from the summer with concrete skills they can take back to school with them in the fall.

Fiorello said that Camp College kept erratic summer schedules in mind when planning the offerings. For example, the summer Super Science Virtual Camp which will teach campers about atoms, bonding, and the periodic table, is centered around lessons campers and their parents can schedule when at times that best suit them.

Other camps, like Drone Legends, will see campers learning to code and piloting drones through a live, password-protected Zoom session.

Many of the camps will also feature graduation ceremonies, after which students will receive framed certificates acknowledging all they learned over the summer.

“We have developed an engaging, innovative lineup of programs sure to please any virtual camper,” Fiorello said. “And, rest assured that as soon as we are permitted, we will add additional on-site programs.”
