West Windsor, N.J. – Taylor Hawkes was a mainstay on the stat sheets during Mercer County Community College’s (MCCC) 2019 softball season.
The freshman outfielder was one of a pair of players (along with Paige Metz) who suited up for all 46 of the Lady Vikings regular and post-season contests. Her appearances added up in more ways than one: in addition to scoring 42 runs on 51 hits, she converted 28 putouts on 29 total chances in the outfield
“Taylor always leaves her mark on the game,” Head Coach Ryan Zegarski said. Her efforts resulted in a selection to the National Junior College Athletics Association (NJCAA) All-Region 19 Division II Second Team. She was also named to the Garden State Athletic Conference (GSAC) All-Division II team.
Hawkes’ biggest game this season came on April 27 against Suffolk County Community College. She recorded a pair of home runs in Mercer’s 11-2 victory.
“We were a young team this year, but Taylor didn’t show any signs of freshman fright,” Zegarski said. “She’s been ready since day one.”
