BNK 130 - Principles of Banking Operations (3 credits)
Touches on most aspects of banking, from fundamentals of negotiable instruments to contemporary issues and developments within the industry. 3 lecture hours
BNK 132 - Business and Banking Law I (3 credits)
Examines the laws and regulations that govern fund transactions by check, EFT, wire transfer and letters of credit, with focus on issues of liability, wrongful payment and dishonor, electronic banking, deposit accounts, mutual funds and annuities. 3 lecture hours
BNK 231 - Money and Banking for Bankers (3 credits)
Prerequisite: ECO 103 or ECO 111
Presents a fundamental treatment of how money functions in the U.S. and world economies. Topics include the concept of money supply and the role banks play as a money creator and participant in the nation's payment mechanism, functions and powers of the Federal Reserve, and how various types of financial institutions operate the workings of monetary and fiscal policies. 3 lecture hours
BNK 232 - Commercial Lending (3 credits)
Provides a conceptual framework for commercial lending, how it is organized and how it contributes to bank profits. Covers the commercial lending process from initial loan request through collection. 3 lecture hours
BNK 234 - Real Estate and Mortgage Principles (3 credits)
Covers construction and permanent financing for residential properties, real estate law, documentation, mortgage loan servicing, secondary mortgage market, role of government in mortgage lending, and residential real estate as an investment. 3 lecture hours
BNK 235 - Consumer Lending (3 credits)
Overview of the consumer lending business including essentials about closed-end loans, indirect loans and related credit products, and open-end credit products. Traces the consumer lending process from developing and taking loan applications to collection and recovery. 3 lecture hours
BNK 236 - Trust Operations (3 credits)
Discusses the concepts and ideas that comprise the various trust functions and translates them into workable procedures. Explains the responsibilities inherent in the fiduciary and agency relationships a trust department has with its customers and identifies the laws and regulations that define and circumscribe trust activities. 3 lecture hours
BNK 237 - Business and Banking Law II (3 credits)
Explains the regulatory system by which regulations are made and banks are governed; identifies the major laws that affect the business of banking. Special emphasis on the Uniform Commercial Code. 3 lecture hours
