Uniform Construction Code

Mercer County Community College, part of the Mid-Jersey regional community colleges, is pleased to offer Uniform Construction Code (UCC) classes for the fall semester. These classes are for general contractors who are seeking to advance their careers and become New Jersey State Inspectors for local municipalities.  The New Jersey State Department of Community Affairs (DCA) offers a tuition reimbursement for qualified applicants.  The Information below lists the courses Mercer County Community College will offer this term.  For specific information on courses offered by the other Mid-Jersey regional community colleges for Fall 2016 through Spring 2017 can be found below:

All coursework within a particular discipline must be taken in the appropriate sequence (ie. RCS, ICS, HHS.) After successfully completing the required courses, contractors must pass the corresponding National exam. If additional training for the exam are needed or if you have questions about requirements, contact the DCA Licensing Unit at 609-984-7820 or visit the DCA website.

Please note that the Senior Citizen Discount is not applicable to these classes.

Building Inspector HHS (Hybrid)

This course covers the administrative, plan review and inspection requirements for structural, energy, accessibility, radon, mechanical and fire protection systems applicable to Class I structures. Textbooks: Current NJ UCC 2015 International Building Code, 2015 International Mechanical Code and 2015 International Fuel Gas Code. This is a hybrid course that meets for 15 sessions and has additional online work as well. The online portion will be discusses in class.
6.0 CEU. Cost: $660

Construction Official

Prerequisite: Subcode Official class or license
This course acquaints inspectors and subcode officials with the role of the construction official. Includes instruction in such areas as: office organization, purpose and fundamentals of code enforcement, procedures for processing cases, search warrants and administrative hearings, records, maintenance, warrants, relocation, housing maintenance, and legal rights of landlords and tenants. Textbook: Current Uniform Construction Code

Subcode Official

This course prepares inspectors for the administrative license of "subcode official." Subcode administration, legal aspects of code enforceemnt and related legislation are covered. Topics include procedures and forms for permit applications; stop construction orders; variations; notices of violation; emergency situations; and record keeping.

July 11 - August 15

Building Inspector ICS (Hybrid) - Currently in session

Electrical Inspector HHS - Currently in session

Covers advanced electrical systems and system design, material, and installation practices pertaining to Class I structures and all other structures, with particular attention to hazardous use locations.
