N.I.C.E.T.

Mercer County Community College and Transportation Engineering Technology have partnered to offer NICET Levels I, II and III Training workshops on-site at the college and online nationwide. N.I.C.E.T. certification was designed for engineering technicians involved in the inspection and monitoring of highway construction projects. Areas covered are: interpretation of contract plans and specifications; project record keeping and reporting; construction surveying; field inspection and testing procedures; techniques and equipment; and supervisory techniques.

N.I.C.E.T. Levels I & II Highway Construction

Our National Institute for Certification in Engineering Technology workshops enable candidates to demonstrate their skills and knowledge, while establishing a path that promotes continuing professional development.This workshop is designed for technicians with less than five years' experience. The proposed session consists of eight training modules including:

      • Intro to the NICET Certification Process

      • Basic and Intermediate Math and Conversions

      • Basic Physical Science

      • Plans, Surveying & Topographic Maps

      • Communications

      • Material Sampling & Testing

      • Levels I & II Special Work Elements

N.I.C.E.T. Level III Highway Construction

The Level III workshop is for intermediate level technicians with more than five years of relevant work experience to expand upon Level I and II learning. Level III certification does not require prior certification at the lower level, but it does require meeting the certification requirements of the lower levels. The proposed session consists of seven (7) training modules including:

      • Testing & Inspection of Materials, Structures and Pavements

      • Surveying and Complex Plans / Erosion and Sedimentation Control

      • Quantity and Cost Calculation and Analysis

      • Compliance Issues / Safety and First Aid

      • Payroll, Communication and Reporting

      • Basic Government Programs

      • Maintenance & Protection of Traffic

Construction Math provides an overview of mathematical operations you will face on the job. Learning objectives are:

      • Understand why certain calculations must be performed.

      • Review the units of measure commonly used for documentation and payment.

      • Practice the rounding concepts and decimal measures commonly used on projects.

      • Understand calculations and demonstrate how to apply them.
