NJCAA Division III National Championship

Despite only having two players qualify for the NJCAA Division III National Championship, Mercer men's tennis finished in 7th place at the championship hosted by Collin College in Plano, Texas.  Freshman Brandon Davis (Woodbridge, NJ/John F. Kennedy Memorial), the Region 19 Champion at 1st Singles, lost his opening match at the National Championship in three sets 6-7, 6-3, 6-3 to Andrew Reiley of Suffolk, NY.  Davis went on to win the Backdraw, following a 7-6, 6-2 win over Matt McCall of Onondaga, NY and a 6-2, 6-2 win over Troy Derrick of CCRI.  Sophomore Tyler Sincoskie (Mount Holly, NJ/Rancocas Valley) won his opening match at 2nd Singles 6-3, 4-6, 6-1 over Jonathan Van Kouwenberg of Onondaga.  Sincoskie then lost 6-0, 6-0 to the National Champion at 2nd Singles, Peter Higgins of Oxford, GA in a quarterfinal match.  In 1st Doubles play, Davis and Sincoskie won their first match 6-2, 6-1 over Honda/Kaneda of SUNY-Delhi.  Davis and Sincoskie lost to the top seed Heaney/Higgins of Oxford, GA 6-2, 6-1 in the quarterfinals match of that flight.  The Vikings finished with 5.5 points and three places ahead of Brookdale, who edged Mercer for 3rd place at the Region 19 Championship and the final team qualifying place for the National Championship.
