6-7 Loss

5/31/17

Enid, OK -

Mercer baseball (47-13) suffered their first loss of the NJCAA Division II World Series, falling to Lansing 6-7.  The Vikings committed three errors and could not overcome a six-run third inning from the Stars.  Mercer did rally to tie the game in the bottom of the eighth at 6-6, but a solo home run by Carson Eby in the top of the ninth sealed the win for Lansing.  Sophomore Sid Kumar (West Windsor, NJ/West Windsor North) had 2 RBIs and sophomore Gabriel Castillo (Yonkers, NY/HS for Environmental Studies) went 3 for 5 with two doubles and an RBI.  Sophomores Anthony Boselli (Ventnor City, NJ/Holy Spirit) and Anthony Peroni (Hamilton, NJ/Steinert) each added an RBI in the loss.  The Vikings will again play Lansing Thursday at 4:30 PM in an elimination game with the winner advancing to the National Championship game.
